Geltinger Birk Luftbild - 1826 wurde die Windmühle Charlotte errichtet | Um die Birk landwirtschaftlich nutzen zu können, wurde 1581 der erste Deich an der schleswig-holsteinischen Ostseeküste errichtet, der das Geltinger und Beveroer Moor von der Ostsee abtrennte. Der erste Deich wurde später durch eine Sturmflut zerstört, 1750 folgte der Grahlensteindamm, und 1826 wurde die Windmühle Charlotte errichtet, die erstmals eine großflächige Entwässerung ermöglichte.
